Body Language

The book I used for this blog is “Body language for dummies” by Elizabeth Kuhnke although I know quite a lot about this subject so some of the info in this post is not found in this book.

Do you know how to tell if someone is lieing I will tell you the method used by people like the police apparently you tend to subconsciously look slightly away from the person you are talking to when you lie. Another method is to lower your voice the other person will match your voice & if the person is lieing there will be a slight tremor in their voice. I think with both of these methods you have to take anxiety into consideration.

I’ll tell you a story my next door neighbour – I won’t mention his name – let someone stop in his flat & I think this character robbed and threatened him. Anyway he made out the person was stopping in my flat to avoid getting in trouble. The police came around my flat & I told them I had never heard of this person. I was not aware of it at the time but I was looking slightly away but because I was nervous. I let the policeman search my flat and of course he found absolutely nothing. But this didn’t stop him going on about ” I know he is in your flat” etc. This led to me losing my temper. I faced him fully looked him in the eye & I kept repeating “Why do you think he is in my flat.” At this point it was obvious I was telling the truth and he left. The police came around several times looking for this bloke. In the end I said to them ” Ask him what the interior of my flat looks like.” They told me that one of my neighbours had told them this idiot was stopping at my flat. I knew who it was & told them I had heard someone leaving his flat at half seven every morning.

An interesting fact that was in the book was that smiling has the same meaning in every culture on the planet. I think that is amazing when you look at the differences. For example I think in some asian countries it is considered very rude to show the soles of your feet when you are sat down.
