The book I read to research this post was How To Do A Background Check by Scott Fowler which is a very good book that I bought from kindle. This book is mainly aimed at the American market but there is also some international websites that can be used abroad or even on checking on immigrants. You can always enter a persons name, where they live and what you are checking on into Google Search which does seem quite good at referring you to relevant sites. In America some sites include the Bureau Of Prisons and every county keeps court records online which can normally be accessed for free. When accessing sites like these you have to note whether the person was charged with something or just accused and you also have to understand what a specific charge means in terms of what the person did. Experience is the only way you can learn this. A good American website which tends to have most relevant information in one place is http://www.brbpublications.com. If you are employing a trucker in addition to checking qualifications and criminal record you also need to check for traffic violations. You often also have to check employment history in last 7 years although sometimes it is 10 which means contacting previous employers and don’t just ask the receptionist but ask the appropriate person. You will often need a waiver from the potential employee for this and may have to send or fax a copy to the company. Many companies now are also doing a social media search where they check if the person has an inappropriate lifestyle like doing drink and drugs or criticizes bosses. You can often check this via google which should take you to the various social media accounts of the person. For international use there is Interpol which probably only tells you if they have a criminal record and not much else. I did enjoy reading this book and do recommend it. I wish someone did a book like this for the English market and finally it is only about 20 pages so is quite short.
